Celebrating Nike’s 54th anniversary with release of new eco-friendly shoes
BEAVERTON, Ore., Jan. 1, 2025 — Nike, a sportswear brand for athletes, is releasing new eco-friendly shoes in celebration of the company’s 54th anniversary. The shoes, called EcoStrides, come from a partnership with Nike’s sustainability program, Nike Grind. Starting on Feb. 1, 2025, the EcoStrides will be available for purchase online and in all brick-and-mortar stores until the end of the calendar year, while Nike celebrates the anniversary.
Throughout 2025, the limited edition Nike EcoStrides will be available online and in all brick-and-mortar stores globally. The shoes were created from a collaboration with Nike Grind and are made with fully recycled materials. Customers can expect EcoStrides to be sleek and classic Nike shoes with the added benefit of authentic eco-friendliness. EcoStrides come in a variety of colors including black, grey, blue and light pink. The product will become available at 1 a.m. PST on Feb. 1, 2025 and will remain in stores until 11:59 p.m. PST on Dec. 31, 2025. Because the company is celebrating its 54th anniversary, Nike will donate 5.4% of all EcoStride sales to sustainability efforts.
Elliot Hill, CEO, and Noel Kinder, chief sustainability officer, are hoping to honor Nike’s 54th anniversary while celebrating the company’s sustainability practices and Move to Zero initiative. The EcoStrides promote Nike’s mission of decreasing waste and allows customers to be part of the company’s desire for a sustainable future by purchasing shoes that contribute to a good cause. Customers can expect more Nike Grind collaborations in the future.
“Everyone at Nike is so excited to launch these shoes to celebrate our 54th anniversary,” said Hill. “Not only do these shoes honor Nike as a company but the EcoStrides also highlight our desire for a more sustainable future. This collaboration with Nike Grind is just the beginning.”
Nike’s mission lists several sustainable development goals, several of which are centered around climate action and responsible production of goods. The company’s 2025 targets involve decreasing waste and increasing product refurbishing and recycling.
“Sustainability is very important to our company,” Kinder added. “It was an honor to work with Nike Grind on these shoes made from 100% recycled materials. I can’t wait for future collaborations.”
